Decorating The Right Way The First Time!   by Kim Uradnik

See if this scenario is familiar to you...

You take a look around your room and think that your room is B&B (and, no, I don't mean a Bed & Breakfast, but rather, Bland and Boring)! So you set out to rearrange the furniture, maybe move a picture or two, or perhaps add a splash of that vibrant color that looked fabulous on the paint sample. Then, nearly 3 hours later and after wiping the sweat off your brow so many times that you've lost count, you stand back to look at your masterpiece and VOILA! UGH! Still B&B! You then spend the next 3 hours moving everything back the way it was and still leave the room at the end of the evening just as disgusted as you were when you started!

Yep, we've all been there, done that! That is until Secrets to Home Interior Decorating Success found it's way into your 'library' of ebooks! What a breath of fresh air this book lends itself too! Janice Price takes each of us "dummies" and leads us by the hand into her 15+ years of experience as an expert interior designer and makes each of us an expert too!

* Design our kitchens to fit not only the busy family lifestyle, but make them practical and functional with class
* Decorate a nursery with whimsy, color and creativity that will make the room the envy of all parents-to-be
* Spice up the hard to please teen's room that will fit their style (and yours), function and imagination
* Create a child's room that grows with them
* Optimize small spaces with the right furniture and arrangements so that even the smallest of spaces (you know who you are, especially if you live in a tiny apartment or condo) seem larger!

Asian Interior Design

Asian Interior Design   by Interior Design Nyc

Play with your interior design nyc. There are lots of people who utilize a Japanese theme within their Asian decor. Although there are numerous methods to achieving this look a popular selection would have to be Japanese Shoji screens. You can find these with elaborate designs and decorations, or you can find a plain one. Some people use them as room separators; others just use them to adorn their home. The Kotatsu table is also a preferred selection when it comes to Japanese and Asian design. It compliments a space very well with its rectangular shape, straight clean cut lines, and dark coloring. In Japan they call these the emotional vortex of a house because lots of them have heaters in the center.

When aiming for an Asian them, another component that is vital to the outcome is perspective. Plenty of thought and intuition goes into this area of design. "Room force" brings about the perspective utilized in this form. In the US, and other western cultures, mirrors are used to manipulate this element. Asian design, however, practices the alteration of objects, their position, height, and order to produce the desired environment, and make certain aspects of the design to stand out.

If you take a look at some Asian designs, you will find that a lot of focus is absorbed by the use of dragons. Most times the dragon is considered the "meat and potatoes" of the artwork or design. The dragons are necessary so I guess you could say there is some truth to that, but the most important component of the storytelling ensemble is some type of mural. This is how designers are capable of relaying a story through the use of different types of designs and colors, pictures, and artwork. I guess you could say that people who use this type of setup are actually Americanizing dragons. They aim to create an air of Asian culture while still attempting to remain contemporary.

In mostly all the realms of interior design, light plays a major role. In an Asian home, most times, natural light is preferred over fake or electric light. Natural light creates an aura of nature, purity, cleanliness. Natural light also provides a place of peace.

There are other influences on Asian design worth some consideration. Calligraphy derived from Chinese and Japanese tradition used on walls has a major impact on Asian interior design. Your Asian theme is enhanced beautifully with this method. It also provides a traditional and classical stamp to your design. You can purchase the print framed in advance, or you could just but the print and get it framed yourself. I would recommend buying the print already framed. That way all you have to do is put it on your walls. They have frames with decor and designs, but to achieve the look you're aiming for its best to choose a plain one. Traditional frames are black and without design and they make the prints really stand out.
Good luck with your interior design nyc!

So You Want To Be An Interior Designer?

So You Want To Be An Interior Designer?    by Jay White

My wife has a problem.

Every night, once the kids are asleep, she rushed to the living room, grabs the remote, and switches it to HGTV. For the next hour and a half, she's mesmerized by strangers making choices on home decor. And she's more than willing to offer her own advice as well.

"Are they kidding? That color is HIDEOUS!"

"Oh who would want that in their bedroom..."

Or the one that frightens me the most: "Let's do the same thing to our kitchen!"

But this is not an uncommon occurrence. All over the country people are swarming to these home decorating shows, anxious to get their interior decorating juices flowing. And the cable networks are eating it up.

But is there REALLY a market for interior designers out there?

The answer is a resounding YES. Right now, interior design is one of the fastest rising careers in the marketplace. With the popularity of shows like these and the "keep up the the Jones'" mindset that's so prevalent in today's suburbia, more and more homeowners are hiring interior designers to make magic in their house.

And they'll pay anything--ANYTHING-- to make sure it's twice as magical than the folks next door. So the opportunity to make big bucks as an interior decorator is there...but how do you go about getting into this field?

Here's a few tips to help get you started...

--Look into attending an interior design college. Here's where you'll learn how it all works, with courses on everything from proper room acoustics to feng shui. Most programs come with bachelor degrees, so you can get educated and start your own business in just a few years.

--Become a volunteer or an intern: Want a free education? Hook up with an existing firm and learn all of their design tricks firsthand--for only the cost of your time. Many busy interior designer would love to have someone helping them out. And you reap all the benefits of getting your hands dirty from day one. Maybe they'll even offer you a paid position, so you can get trained AND get paid. How cool is that?

--Offer to redecorate for friends or relatives: What a fabulous way to work up a portfolio. If you have a decorator's eye, then offer to do a room (or two) for someone you know. This is a superb method for gaining experience and that all important sample to show potential clients. Plus, your friends and relatives will love you for it!

These are just a few of the ways to get started as an interior designer. So get up of the couch and put your talents to work...for real! And who knows? Maybe you'll have your own show someday, and my wife can question your choices too!
