The Function of the room
Every room has to have a function or else there is no point in decorating in the first place. The function of the room means that the room should serve the purpose that you set out to achieve.
An example of this would be your living room. It is called that for a reason, because it is the room you will live in day in day out so should be welcoming and relaxing. Too many people put so much effort into their perfect living space that they are then afraid to dirty it and no one is allowed into it so therefore it completely loses the concept of decorating it in the first place.The living room should be relaxing, comfortable and a place for family and friends to interact, therefore it is functional and serves its purpose.
The Mood
The mood of the room can be started off quite easily by your choice of colours. If you want your bedroom to be warm and cosy feeling then reds and deep oranges will help achieve this look. You might want your kitchen to feel airy and clean so light blues light pastels colours might work. A living could be done with natural colours so no matter the day you have had and the mood you are in the room will always welcome you in and have a calming influence.
The Harmony
Finally we have the harmony of the room. Everything in the room should blend together and work as one. You should still have contrasts in the room, but these should be seamless and work together. An example of this is using different colours to contrast but also complement each other. If you were told that a room was decorated with wall paper and the pattern was made up of a mocha colour and teal you would turn your nose up at it. When you actually see these two colour in a living room for example they work perfectly together and allow alot more scope for ideas for the rest of the room.
These three elements of successful interior decorating should be implemented into your home. This will make it more welcoming, homely and of course more attractive. Thus it is made enjoyable by everyone who uses that room.
